Researching

I am currently exploring the available datasets, documenting early hypotheses and testing possible directions for the final project.

About the project

This is my first data competition.

Over the coming weeks, I will document how I explore the datasets, develop research questions, test hypotheses, create visual experiments and decide what story is worth telling.

The purpose is not only to create a final visualization. I want to understand how data can help communities, support better public decisions and bring attention to issues affecting Pacific and Indigenous populations.

Current phase

I am beginning with dataset exploration.

My first goals are to understand:

  • What information is available
  • What each row and variable represents
  • Which geographic areas and years are covered
  • What information is missing
  • Which datasets could be connected
  • What meaningful questions the data could answer

What will be documented

This project will include:

  • Research logs
  • Hypotheses
  • Data-cleaning decisions
  • Code and notebooks
  • Exploratory visualizations
  • Findings and limitations
  • Videos
  • The final competition submission
  • A retrospective after completion

Current research question

What important story about Pacific communities can these datasets genuinely support?

This question will evolve as I learn more about the available evidence.
